What is Fashion?…

What is fashionable these days? Taking everything into consideration, the outward and inward body plus, the cleanliness of the body, fashion is a personal decision. Sure, one can get help from many different sources, but one must make the choice on how they apply the fashion to themselves so that one can be her own person. Women’s fashion is something that is growing every day. Fashion is so many things, no one person could define.

Fashion is the way one dresses. It could be feminine, sporty, masculine, or anything else. It is the way one chooses to style their hair. Short, long, straight, curly, or any color you want. Fashion is the way one applies make up. One can choose to have heavy makeup, light make up, costume make up, or no makeup at all. Fashion is the way one acts. A woman with integrity, who knows how to stand up for herself; a woman who is polite, but firm; a woman who knows how to lead and to follow; and, a woman who knows the right people to associate with.

Fashion is an everyday woman as well as the celebrity or model. Fashion is the way one takes care of them such as a woman who knows how to be naturally beautiful by following basic hygiene rules like taking showers, brushing teeth, and just keeping healthy. Fashion is how you portray yourself to others. Most of all, fashion is a personal choice, not dictated by others, but, by what makes you happy. Never compromise yourself for something the fashion media says is a must have. Never starve yourself for what fashion says is beautiful.

Never become so ugly on the inside you have to hide it with clothes.

What is fashion? Fashion is every woman who puts on clothes. It is every personal decision that makes you who you are. One might even say that fashion helps us show others who we are. Fashion is good and bad. It helps us to be unique and beautiful in our own way, but it also shows us that we are not as thin or wealthy as others. Take fashion with a grain of sand, because it changes every day. Watch it, learn from it, even live it at times, but do not let it take control of you. Women must control fashion and the way it affects their opinions, for that , in itself, is women’s fashion.

Why swapping heels for flip flops causes pain!

Claims from women that high heels are more comfortable than flats are usually met with disbelief, but science is on their side.

Regularly wearing high heels causes calf muscle fibres to shrink, say researchers from Manchester Metropolitan University. When women then swap their killer heels for flats, the shortened muscle fibres are stretched leading to pain.

In their study, the researchers used MRI scans to measure the size of calf muscles in 11 women who regularly wore 5cm high heels for two years or more and who said they felt uncomfortable walking in flats.

The results were then compared with those from a second group who regularly wore flats.

Although the size of the calf muscles in both groups of women were the same, ultrasound scans revealed that the muscle fibre length was shorter by an average of 13 per cent in the high heel wearers.

“When you place the muscle in a shorter position, the fibres become shorter,” said Professor Marco Narici who led the study.

The researchers also found that the Achilles’ tendon was much thicker and stiffer in the women who wore high heels compared with the flat shoe wearers’. This makes it harder for women to walk in flats as the tendon cannot stretch sufficiently.

Fortunately for some, the professor is not advising women to ditch their Jimmy Choos. However, he does suggest doing some simple stretching exercises to avoid pain when women kick off their heels at the end of the day.

“If you stand on your tip toes and lower your heel up and down again it will stretch out the tendons making it easier to walk without heels,” he said.

If you do this about 20 times a day, it would be sufficient to prevent this happening.”

The study is published in the Journal of Experimental Biology.

Making sure you’re always in fashion..

Many of us feel as though we are in touch with current fashion trends, but are we really? It’s often the people who feel as though they are fashionable that one day look around and find that they don’t know anything about current fashion trends. No one wants to be this person, but it seems as though the most well intentioned people end up going all wrong where fashion is concerned.

Staying in Touch with the Fashion Industry

Fashion trends are always changing. You cannot blink or you may miss something big in the fashion world. Of course, we all have our own personal tastes, so you should keep this in mind, but regardless of what your tastes are you can always be in fashion. A great way to make sure that you know what the hot new trends are is to simply take notice of the people around you. When you go to the grocery store or the mall, look at what other people are wearing. You can ramp things up or tone them down as you find appropriate for your lifestyle or your age, but if you simply look around you’ll get a lot of indirect fashion advice.

Just making a concerted effort to window shop will help keep you abreast of what is new in the fashion world. When you walk down the mall look at the windows and take note of the fashions. Not all of them will appeal to you, in fact not all of them may be right for your body type, but at least you will have an idea of what is going on. Knowing what is going on in the fashion world is important because it can help you keep your wardrobe current so you always look your best.

Another option when you want to know what is hot in fashion is to read magazines. There are a lot of magazines that are dedicated to fashion. Even magazines such as Glamour, Cosmopolitan, can offer you some great fashion advice. Not only will you see what people are wearing, you may find advice on how you can wear the latest trends so it is always as flattering as possible.

Are you really a fashion buff? If so, you should try to attend as many fashion shows as possible. When you attend fashion shows you often get a look at what will be hot the next season. This will give you a leg up on everyone else so you always have the most current look possible, and isn’t that what fashion is all about?

What to do when buying shoes…

There are many people giving advice on how to buy shoes based on color and style but there are other considerations that must be given thought as well.

One fact that is well known by podiatrists, but not as much with the general population is that most people have feet of different sizes. In some individuals it may be that the foot is wider and in some it may be longer. Due to this physiological aspect of your feet, you should definitely put the shoes on both feet and walk around in them.

Don’t just buy a pair of shoes because they are in vogue. A shoe that looks good on a model you see on TV may not work for your foot. Take in to consideration what you are going to be using the shoes for; if you are going to be standing in them you will want comfort above all. If you are only going to wear them out to dinner you may be able to stand a little discomfort.

Another thing to consider is quality. In most cases it is far better to invest the money in a better pair of shoes that will last a long time and keep looking good than to buy cheap shoes that only last a few months. This is particularly true of your basic everyday work shoes and shoes you may purchase for exercise.

Remember, you are the one that has to wear the shoes. It doesn’t matter how good they look if you can’t walk in them or they cause undue discomfort on your feet. Shoes that do not fit properly or put unnatural stress on the bones of your feet can cause irreversible damage.

Take your time and look at what is available to you and make your decisions based on all the factors we discussed here and you will be happy with your purchase.

High Heels Training…..

High heels can be a love or hate topic for many women. While some can’t live without them, others shy away from them. If you are avoiding high heel footwear, the only option doesn’t necessarily have to be to love them or leave them.

High heels have a special way to make a woman look sexy and chic, and can even inspire confidence! And odds are you will find yourself eventually in a situation where you just can’t keep away from them. So if fear is keeping you away from high heels here are a few tips on how to get you started:

- Start with lower heels and work your way up! As you progress in heel height, you will begin to gain confidence and feel more comfortable. This is the best way to get started since you won’t feel as much of a difference between heels as if you had jumped from no heel into higher heeled shoes right away.

- When you finally try out a really high heel shoe get the feeling of just standing in them first. Look yourself in the mirror, check your posture and make corrections as necessary then try a few first steps. Its like learning to walk all over again! Walking in high heels is, after all, a whole different walking experience.

- Keep your legs straight and try to keep them close together when you walk. At first high heels don’t feel natural so you will tend to keep your legs a little bent. Try to keep them straight.

- Practice at home, walk around the house while you are doing your everyday things ( Your partner will probably like this). This will give you practical experience while relieving any social pressure of looking awkward while you get used to them. Start wearing them for a short period of time and then gradually build up to longer periods of time. This will help your feet get used to the shape of high heel shoes.

As you gain experience you will start to feel more natural and more comfortable wearing high heel shoes. Practice is the keyword here, soon you will feel fully confident in your heels and you will be ready to show off at that party or just at work.  High Heels will make you look fabulous at  any occasion.

SANDALS FOR SUMMER, THE WEDGE SHOE YOU LOVE…

Wedges are all the rage this season and this is a great thing to hear. A fine sassy pair of sandals is perfect for walk at the beach as well as for a night out in the bar. Your sexy stilettos are great and there is no question about that, but now the summer is here and the wedge is what’s it all about.

The best thing about wedges is that they are versatile and can be paired with almost anything you find in your closet. It’s possible to pair them with different styles and you can switch from sexy and sophisticated to bohemian in matter of seconds. You can use wedges for balance if you find walking in high heels a bit uncomfortable and risky. With wedges, you get a new chance and your feet will appreciate that for sure. Because they have a wider surface area, its easier for these sandals to give you some extra comfort for your feet. You won’t get any pain from the extra pressure for sure.

With the wedges, you can take your casual clothing to the new level with adding some sex appeal and some style like flirty frocks or denim shorts. If you have thicker ankles, you can use wedges to make them appear thinner then they really are. If you have any doubts about this, then wedges are something you have to use. Combine them with wrap dresses, flowing skirts and sexy shorts to get a terrific look for any possible occasion.

As you can see, wedges really do offer a completely new world of fashion, but this doesn’t mean you can wear them all the time with absolutely everything. To keep your feet look fashionable in sandals, we have a few tips to share with you today. The first one is to recognize the difference between casual and elegant when it comes to sandals. You know that wedges come in all styles and some of them are perfect for a date and in the same time are not suitable enough for some special occasion or a sophisticated night out. There is one simple test you can do with your sandals. If you stand in front the mirror and do not feel that the wedges  fit with the rest of the clothes you have, then you probably should wear a different pair of sandals. The best thing for you to know is, when is the right time to wear them, or look for a different pair of sandals for your look. With a good, comfortable pair of sandals, your everyday will be a good day.

SHOE FANATICISM…

In the 21st Century fandom exists in all shapes and sizes. There are groups devoted to everything, from Ford Mondeos to Poodles to music released only on unplayable formats. Indeed, the fandom of shoes is nothing new. Admissions of Shoeaholism have become as everyday as Carrie Bradshaw’s indecisiveness but in recent months a number of news stories have brought to my attention the notion that there may well be many specific different types of Shoeaholic.

The first type of shoeaholic to acknowledge is the classic ‘hoarder’. I would suppose that ‘hoarders’ make up the majority of shoeaholics and beside owning hundreds of shoes, they are also known to have an extensive, dare I say, encyclopaedic amount of knowledge when it comes to footwear. They are also known to have a physical bodily reaction when certain names are mentioned. For example, mutter Louboutin or Balenciaga in the presence of a ‘hoarder’ and they are likely to slump to the floor only to be revived by a splash of cold water to the ankles.

The second type of Shoeaholic could well be regarded as the next step up from the typical ‘hoarder’. Whereas a ‘hoarder’ may work in the fashion sector, own and collect many shoes – they probably act like you or me. However, the so-called ‘shoe extremist’ will take the right to wear a specific type of shoe to court if they need to. In Essex this month, a woman (owner of 200 shoes) who was injured after slipping over at an airport decided to sue for damages because she could not wear her heels after the fall. She won.

The final type came to light via a slightly different news story, and this group seem a little more illusive than the others. The ‘Celebri-feet-fan’, instead of directly following the styles and changes as dictated by the fashion industry, will follow the shoe choices of someone in the public eye…and not necessarily someone famous for their style sense. The most recent celebrity supposedly at the heart of starting a shoe following is none other than Sarah Palin. The Mail reports that her red Naughty Monkey heels have been flying off shelves since she has been on her campaign trail. In some places sales have risen by 50 per cent.

Granted, the tags I may have given each Shoeaholic may be a little literal, and a privileged few may fit into all three, but at least from now on if I meet anyone who claims that ‘I just love shoes’, it may be a little easier to discern just how obsessed they are – and if they are as fanatical as I am.

WEARING THE RIGHT SHOES..

The average person could walk over a staggering 100,000 miles in their lifetime, meaning they will take over 200 million steps; which is the equivalent to walking around the world four times! Therefore emphasising the sheer importance of looking after ones feet, and no more so than in the shoes we choose to wear. Unfortunately, shoes aren’t invincible and will need replacing every so often; so follow this guide to ensure long-lasting comfort in your shoes and more importantly, healthy feet.

-Sports shoes – these types of shoes are frequently debated about as to how often they should be replaced. Evidently, for many avid runners, the shoes play a crucial role in both their performance and their physical health. Running shoes provide much needed support to the joints of the feet, knees and hips, offering shock absorption to keep these joints healthy. Therefore, keen joggers who are jogging nearly everyday should be looking to replace their running shoes from every 3 to 6 months. Equally, if you start to notice a lack of support or bounce from your running shoes it is probably time to start looking for another pair.

-Work shoes – probably one of the most worn pair of shoes in both men’s footwear and women’s footwear collections! Therefore, you should be looking to replace these once they start to lose their shine or start looking a bit scuffed. This is generally the key in smart dress shoes too.

-Slippers – this type of footwear is probably the least replaced, as we all get attached to a certain pair of slippers. However, once your slippers start to loose their grip you should look into replacing them to avoid slipping on wooden/shiny surfaces.

For great value shoes why not take a look at Mrs Harpers Boutique’s fantastic selection on their website It is important that you buy your shoes from a professional high street store like The Glass Slipper to ensure a high quality in your shoes as your feet are irreplaceable.

Ever stop to think why women are so obsessed with shoes?

Something originally intended to protect the feet from harsh weather conditions became a major fashion statement over time. Women simply can’t function without ’em.

Menbur shoes available at Mrs Harpers Boutique.

From boots to high-heeled and platform shoes, clogs and sandals, there’s a shoe for every occasion.

Forest Gump said: “Mama always said you could tell an awful lot about a person by the kind of shoes they wear.”

It’s true. In ancient Egypt sandals with pointed toes were reserved for those of higher stations in society. Commoners wore sandals of woven papyrus and slaves went barefoot. Red and yellow sandals were reserved for aristocrats.

In ancient Greece aristocratic women owned as many as 20 pairs of shoes with a style to match every occasion.

The French started wearing pointed shoes to hide deformed hooves.

But no shoe has shouted leisure, sexuality and sophistication as much as the high-heeled variety.

They began to be made in two pieces in the 1500s, with a flexible upper attached to a heavier, stiffer sole. This new two-part shoe led to the heel being an actual part of the shoe rather than just an attachable overshoe.

Aristocratic French women began wearing high-heeled shoes so steep that the well-heeled wearer was literally standing on her toes.

Later stilt-like wooden platform shoes became the rage in Venice. The heels eventually became so high that women could not walk in them and servants were hired to help the ladies in and out of their gondolas.

The term “well-heeled” became synonymous with opulent wealth.

When the French Revolution drew near, in the late 1700s, the practice of wearing heels fell into decline in France due to its associations with wealth and aristocracy.

Throughout most of the 1800s, flat shoes and sandals were usual for both sexes, but the heel resurfaced in fashion during the late 1800s, almost exclusively among women.

Heels still reign supreme today. But thankfully today’s women of any class, colour or creed can choose from a wide variety of shoes and still feel important and comfortable too.

Compared to modern footgear, the fashion shoes of earlier centuries were highly uncomfortable. Now they have everything – beauty and comfort.

Here are a few good reasons why a girl might just love her heels more than her man:

  • They make her feel sexy without saying anything.
  • We put on weight as we age but our shoe size never changes.
  • Because no matter what kind of a day they or she’s had, shoes can always make a woman feel sexy and pretty in about five seconds!
  • Shoes can go with her on a day-long shopping spree and they won’t complain.
  • Heels cuddle your feet and make you feel fabulous ALL day, while men can’t even spoon for 15 minutes at night.
  • They don’t get jealous when she wears another pair.
  • Women and shoes don’t fight – shoes love you unconditionally.
  • We can walk all over them and not worry about hurting their feelings.
  • Shoes don’t have nasty in-laws – they come from a gorgeous family.
  • Shoes don’t talk back.
  • Heels don’t hog the remote and make you watch stuff like Dirty Jobs and WWF.
  • She can take them off whenever and leave them until she feels like wearing them again without any emotional baggage – and they can be easily replaced.
  • All shoes are good to look at!
  • They come in twos! Many women can’t resist buying a new pair of shoes every time they pass by a shoe store. They have good instincts. As the saying goes, the first impression is a lasting impression. It is essential for a woman to pay attention to the type of shoes she wears.

It’s as important as any other accessory. We aren’t like men who buy shoes just for utilitarian purposes.

Without a nice, matching pair of shoes, the fashion statement of a woman remains incomplete.

One can indeed tell quite a bit about a woman by checking out the collection of shoes in her closet.
